Our drive was entirely on interstates, the weather was misty rain and there were no places to pull over to take pictures – so for once we made good time. It was primarily unremarkable except for the fall foliage continuting, though not as brilliant yet here as it was in NH and VT. We had never before seen the Yorktown house of our New York cousins, Wendy Wolf and Hugh Van Dusen. We were charmed by their country estate, which has roots in the nineteenth century and has has been gradually updated to it’s present modern form, complete with all the indoor modern amenities plus swimming pool and beautiful garden. Wendy’s oldest friend, Lisa Allendt, and her husband Phil, were also visiting for the weekend. Hugh prepared one of his gourmet feasts, highlighted by veal Van Dusen, and we all enjoyed a lovely evening.
