DAY 33 – Oct. 2: Keene, VT to Boston, MA

The area of Keene and Swanzey, VT are covered bridge’s heaven, with at least 6 bridges in the area. We visit the “best” three recommended by the motel desk staff. Although most of them are almost 200 years old, they are still in use and have been repeatedly and lovingly restored. On to MA. Having hunger spasms, we turn off the main highway to a small town named Athol. Luck is with us and we discover a wonderful little seafood cafe right off the highway. We both have a terrific oyster loaf (about a dozen oysters each). Then, onward to Walden Pond – which is a major disappointment. Peter was expecting a Thoreau like meditation site. Now, a 150 years later, it is thronged by beach bathers and swimmers. Bummer!! Down the road is the Gropius House, which is classic Bauhaus. We then proceed to our cousins lovely home, just outside of Boston where were
greeted by Jeff, Bettina, Lucas and Noah.
