We drove today from Fargo, ND to Duluth, MN, about 400 miles. One of the places that I was most looking forward to visiting was Itasca State Park, in northern MN, the source of the Mississippi River. Having grown up in New Orleans, where the river is about a mile wide, it was a much anticipated thrill to be able to walk across it, on stones or on a log bridge. Here the width of the little stream is about 15-20′. WOW!!!! And a beautiful park, too, full of many of Minnesota’s 10,000 lakes. We’re staying in a nice motel/hotel on the shores of Lake Superior, in a room with a panoramic view of this immense lake, in an area which seems to be a poor cousin to the French Quarter of New Orleans. An exciting day.
